At Home in the Woods
On one of the first panicky lists we compiled back in March, we planned out how we would optimize our time at home to finish all our house projects and photograph the ways that we live with our work.
The thing is, we do. We do live with our work. We live with early prototypes and trade show seconds. We surround ourselves with these works because it is how we learn. We also trade with friends because their work has something to teach us too.
All this gets mixed together with family hand-me-downs in a house that is also a family hand-me-down of sorts layered with memory before we even arrived with the next generation.
When we surround ourselves with objects of meaning that bring us joy, we hope that we teach our kids to respect the built environment, to value and care for natural materials and to be curious about and delighted by beauty.
It is the end of May now and though we are moving projects along, our studio space is still closed following Washington's guidelines.
Last week we should have been in New York launching the new work that we are so excited to share with you when we can. In the meantime, please let us take you on this little tour through our home and into the woods where we have been spending our time.
This tour is not what we envisioned when we first made that panicky to-do list, but we lost that list weeks ago. We were too busy letting our children take the lead, foraging for nettles and mushrooms, taking cold plunges in the Puget Sound, dancing it out after dinner and shedding tears for all the things still so uncertain for so many.
We hope you are all finding small moments of beauty within your own homes and communities at this time. Stay safe and please let us know if we can help.
